About UsWhat is Waikato RiverCare? Waikato RiverCare has been operating since 1999 and officially became an incorporated society in 2001. Members include a range of organisations and people who all share a similar passion for the lower Waikato River. The group’s primary focus is on preparing, planting and maintaining areas of native plant habitat on the banks of the Lower Waikato River, and sourcing funds and support to carry out this work. Co-ordinating community involvement in these projects is an important part of the group’s focus.
Vision To create a show piece of healthy Lower Waikato River riparian habitat based around native species.
Purpose To implement a sustainable programme of action to plant natives on the banks of the Lower Waikato River.
Objective To plant up to two hectares (two kilometres by ten metres wide) of river bank per year. Structure of RiverCare There are two categories of membership - foundation member and general member. Each foundation member appoints one representative to the Executive Committee and up to three general members may be elected to the Executive Committee.
