About Us

What is Waikato RiverCare?

Waikato RiverCare has been operating since 1999 and officially became an incorporated society in 2001.  Members include a range of organisations and people who all share a similar passion for the lower Waikato River.

The group’s primary focus is on preparing, planting and maintaining areas of native plant habitat on the banks of the Lower Waikato River, and sourcing funds and support to carry out this work.

Co-ordinating community involvement in these projects is an important part of the group’s focus.

Vision

To create a show piece of healthy Lower Waikato River riparian habitat based around native species.

Purpose

To implement a sustainable programme of action to plant natives on the banks of the Lower Waikato River.

  Objective

To plant up to two hectares (two kilometres by ten metres wide) of river bank per year.
