New Project Sign at Lake Areare

Have you spotted our new Lake Areare project sign when driving on the Waikato Expressway?

RiverCare started the 1.1ha project in September 2020, which Involves the amalgamation of established reserve fencing around the Department of Conservation administered Lake Areare Wildlife Management Reserve to incorporate a recently established esplanade Reserve (shown by the lime green line in the photo) administered by the Waikato District Council.

Project actions completed so far include:

- Barakat Contractors building a seven-wire post and batten fence to complete the boundary fencing.

- Sudden Impact Ltd completing pre-planting vegetation controls to address grey willow, blackberry, gorse and gypsy wort growth within the planting zone.

In August 2021, RiverCare will plant 5,100 native plants (both wet and dry species), with an additional 765 to be planted in 2023.

RiverCare would like to thank our project partners and funders, Waikato District Council and the Department of Conservation (the Living Waters team) for their support in making this project possible.
