Tour of Mercury Hydro Dam

Last week, Waikato RiverCare had the opportunity to visit one of Mercury’s hydro dams and gain valuable insight into how hydroelectric generation operates within the Waikato River system.

The tour provided a behind-the-scenes look at dam operations, including how water flows are managed to balance energy generation, environmental considerations, and river health. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the role hydroelectricity plays in New Zealand’s renewable energy mix and the importance of ongoing collaboration between river users and stakeholders.
